Laki is located in the Prespa part of the Western Rhodopes, 36 km from the Asenovgrad, 54 km from Plovdiv and 88 km from Smolyan. It emerged due to the rich deposits of ore, and in 1969 it was declared a town. The town is surrounded by the picturesque gorges of the rivers Manastirska, Dryanovska, Yugovska and Lakinska crossing the mountain and creating interesting rock formations. Some of them have been declared landmarks, such as the Rock Bridge, the Gyumbyurtiyata Waterfall along the Belishka River and the Holy Spirit Waterfall along the Manastirska River. Fans of hiking and ecotourism know that the Red Wall Reserve is situated near Laki where dozens of protected species have been preserved, such as the rarest orchid in the country - Venus Slipper, the Rhodope Tulip and the Rhodope Haberlea called the 'Orpheus' flower. The fauna is represented by almost all the raptors, such as the Egyptian vulture, golden eagle, etc. The highest waterfall in the Rhodopes - Slivodolskoto Padalo is located in the reserve. The famous hunting reserve of Kormisosh is near Laki, too. There are hunting lodges, cabins and a residence there. There are a variety of game and representatives of rare species that are attractive to tourists. The biggest populations of brown bears, wolves and deer in Bulgaria are here. There are deer, wild boar, roe deer, and fallow deer. There are close and distant mountain hiking and mountainous routes along eco-trails in the surroundings of Laki; trips are organized to the nearby natural and historical attractions, as well as picking berries, mushrooms and herbs, picnics; donkey riding is offered, too. The area is suitable for rural tourism, rock climbing, off-road and photo safaris. For those interested in religious tourism and pilgrimage it is important to know that Laki is close to Krastova Gora - a holy complex to the Christians which has become one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Bulgaria. Laki is a good starting point for visiting the historic Haidushki Meadows where there is a monument in honor of the Ilinden Uprising and Mount Svoboda in the historic area of Inihan. Laki hotels are not numerous, but they offer very good accommodation conditions and recreation. These are mainly family hotels and guest houses with affordable room rates where every guest will be welcomed and will be hospitably feasted with the Rhodope dishes, typical for Laki.
