The pearl of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast - Golden Sands, is located 17 km from Varna, along the long sandy beach at the foot of the eponymous nature park. The length of the resort beach is 3.5 km and in places it reaches 100 m in width. The sand is fine and golden - hence the name of Golden Sands. The local legend states that pirates buried golden treasure on the coast, which angered Mother Nature, and in order to revenge it turned the gold into sand. The natural resources of Golden Sands - beaches, hot springs, a Nature Park, proximity to Varna and major tourist centres, make the resort an attractive place for summer vacations of thousands of tourists. Luxury hotels in Golden Sands offer perfect conditions for congress tourism. The mineral springs in the resort are curative and they are suitable for treatment of arthritis, stress, nervousness, pharyngitis, bronchitis and asthma. In Golden Sands there are excellent conditions for sport. On the beach there are boats, water skiing, surfing, jet skis, water chutes, yachts and catamarans, and along the street there are tennis courts, volleyball, basketball, mini golf and archery. In Golden Sands Nature Park there is an opportunity for bike or rickshaw walks and the lovers of horse riding have trained horses and experienced instructors at their disposal. The Rock Aladzha Monastery of Holy Trinity from the 12-13th century is located in the nature park, only 3 km from Golden Sands.
