Borovo is a Rhodope village, situated 6 km from Laki and 50 km from Plovdiv. Its name comes from the softwood pine, as in the past this territory was covered with pine forests. The first written evidence of the village was from 1083, but the archaeological remains found show that it was inhabited as early as the 5-4 century BC. In the area there are numerous chapels and temples that are located in beautiful regions that are excellent for relaxation, spiritual practices and charging energy from nature. Borovo is the main starting point for Krastova Gora, where according to the legend there is a part of the cross on which Christ was crucified. There are numerous testimonies about healed people who visited the monastery and Krastova Gora is believed to be the place chosen by God. The area has the shape of a cross, surrounded by natural pyramidal hills and in January the sun shines in a specific way. Near the village there is an ancient Thracian settlement called Belintash. It is a convenient starting point for excursions and hikes, photo tourism and monitoring of rare and valuable plant and animal species. Hikers may visit the highest settlement in the Balkans - the village of Manastir, Mount Prespa, Mount Svoboda, the House of Peyo Shishmanov and the monument in honour of the Ilinden Uprising. In the area of Borovo there are eco-trails with different routes. The eco-trail of Skautska Zemia has two routes: from Borovo to the natural phenomena of Skalen Most and one from Dzhurkovo Village to the chapel of St. Elijah. The adventure eco-trail of Patyat na Sartseto has the routes of Pohodat na Usmivkata, Pohodat na Vyarata I Pohodat na Svetlinata (The Treks of the Smile, Faith and Light). The routes of all three treks connect the chapels around the village and pass through beautiful natural and historical sites, rock formations, Thracian sanctuaries, rock terraces, fountains and recreation places. The areas of Haidushki Polyani and Dalgite Blata are near Borovo, too, as well as the waterfall and the reof Sveti Duh and the resort of Pamporovo. There are cosy family hotels in Borovo and guest houses for the tourists, as well as self-catering holiday cottages which are a good choice for anyone who wishes to immerse into the unique atmosphere of the Rhodopes.
