The goal of the reserve is to preserve the largest centennial riverside forest in Bulgaria. It is one of the rare places on the Black Sea coast where such forests (longose) may be observed. On the territory of the reserve are established more than 200 species of bird, which makes it a favorite setting for bird-watchers.
