Lopyan is an ancient village dating back to the Thracian times, when has been inhabited by the Thracian tribe Lopusi. From that period dates back one of the main landmarks of the village - the Thracian fortress Cherti grad (4-3 century B.C.), located 3 km from Lopyan. The name of the fortress means "Devil's Town" from old Bulgarian. At present this area is included in the ecological network Natura 2000. Just above Holiday Village Orlova Skala is located the natural landmark Orlov kamak-Chervenata stena. This area has a size of 45.1 hectares and is protected as to preserve the rare species of rapacious birds. Above the rocks of Lopyan is situated another landmark of the village - the church St Peter and Paul. This is a small church, half buried in the ground built in the 19th century. Guests who love fishing may try their lucj at the two rivers of Lopyan - Stara reka and Svinska reka, where they may catch barbel or trout. Those who prefer mountain trekking may visit Chalet Svishti plaz, which is 5 hours on foot from Lopyan. Approximately at the same distance on foot is the fortress Cherti grad. At 5 km east of Lopyan on the road to Ribaritsa is located the Etropole Monastery Holy Trinity, which has been a major literature and scholarship center during the Middle Ages.
