The rock phenomenon of Three Brothers is located north of Aytos in the area of Kazanite and occupies an area of one hectare in the forest park of Slaveeva River. In the 70s of the 20th century it was declared a natural landmark and it is a symbol of the town. It represents three rocks sculpted by nature that resemble human figures. Locals have made up a legend about the rocks according to which they resemble three brothers who defended the people, tortured by the Ottoman invaders. During the day they fought and in the evenings they turned into rocks to rest and hide from the Turks. The giants, stepping on the rocks, left huge traces - dents big as cauldrons, so the area in which they are located is called Kazanite (Caildrons). When the enemy was defeated, the brothers came home for a long rest, but remained vigilant in guard to keep the peace of the locals. The legend long told shows the attitude of the population towards their defenders and in order to show gratitude they erected a large monument at the entrance of Aytos that seems to warn the visitor that the giant brothers are watching over the town. The monument is a work of the sculptor Hristo Tanev, who is one of the best monumental artists in Bulgaria. Nature and hiking lovers may reach the rocks along two routes. The first one goes through the Park of Slaveeva River and is a bit longer, but reveals the enchanting beauty of the park and all its attractions and interesting places for visit and fun. The second route is shorter and goes through Aytos itself and from the end of the town to the rocks it has to be passed on foot because there is no paved road to the phenomenon of Three Brothers. Then it passes through a pine forest at flat places that are convenient for a break, as the route is quite steep and the rocks can be reached for about 30-40 minutes. The difficult hike is worth it because of the beautiful view which opens towards Aytos. The air is clean, and in the warmer months, the place is cool and good for holidays close to nature.
